DNA offers the fastest Mobile Broadband in Finland with 4G speeds

Press release 31.1.2012

DNA is renewing its mobile broadband product range: unlimited prioritised data transmission is now part of DNA Mobile Broadband from L subscriptions upwards, and XL and XXL subscriptions will use 4G speeds. The device range already includes two Mokkula modems supporting 4G-speeds.

DNA has made the choice of mobile broadband easier and clearer, by naming its DNA Mobile Broadband subscriptions with easily understood names indicating the speed of the connection. The idea is to help customers choose just the right-sized product for their needs.

- Because we have Finland's fastest network, we also want to provide quality subscriptions which get the best out of such a network. Thanks to 4G, we can now talk about genuine mobile broadband, when the mobile network too enables fast transfer of even large files and movies in HD. In homes, fast fibre-optic and cable network-based broadband is holding its own, but slower ADSL broadband will be replaced by 4G before long, comments Jarno Haikonen, DNA's Broadband Business Director.

Starting with the L subscription, DNA Mobile Broadband customers benefit from unlimited amount of prioritised data on DNA's network.

- Prioritisation of traffic is an important feature of a modern mobile network. In this way, we can guarantee equal and smooth user experience to our subscribers, Haikonen states.

More than half of the Finnish population already lives within the coverage area of DNA's 4G speeds. The new base station technology has multiplied the data transmission capacity, which makes telecommuting and entertainment consumption equally smooth with both mobile and fixed broadband.

DNA uses both LTE (Long Term Evolution) and DC (Dual Carrier) technologies in the construction of its 4G speeds. 4G LTE enables data transmission speeds of over 100 Mbit/s. New 4G mobile connections and devices support both technologies.

4G modem connects up to 8 devices

DNA offers now two modems ("Mokkula") for mobile connection at 4G speeds. 4G telephones will join the product range during the spring. The DNA Mokkula E392, connectible to computers via USB has a maximum speed of 100 Mbit/s on the 4G LTE network. It also has a microSD card slot and socket for an additional antenna. The DNA Mokkula MF80, which supports 4G DC technology and has a maximum speed of 42 Mbit/s, can connect up to 8 devices. It has a microSD card slot and a connection for an additional antenna.

At the moment, the coverage area of DNA's 4G LTE includes Hämeenlinna and the centres and most densely populated areas of Tampere and Turku. In Helsinki DNA's 4G LTE network covers the southern part of the city centre. DNA is continuously building new 4G speeds, using both LTE and DC technology.
