DNA shortlisted for IBC Innovation Awards 2011
DNA has been shortlisted in the highly sought-after IBC Innovation Awards competition for the implementation project of the new VHF DVB T2 HDTV antenna network in Finland. The project "Single frequency networks for HD with DVB-T2”, chosen from among 130 entries, competes in the Content Delivery category. The winner of the Award will be announced on September 11, 2011, at the prestigious IBC Awards ceremony in Amsterdam.
DNA's project involves TeamCast, supplier of digital modulation technology, Oy L M Ericsson Ab, system integrator for transmission and broadcast networks, and Plisch GmbH, manufacturer of digital transmitter systems. The implementation was done in single frequency network (SFN) mode for DVB-T2.
The IBC Innovation Award proposal explains how the project partners for the deployment of DNA Oy’s new HDTV broadcast network in Finland met the demanding timescales and performance requirements with a truly innovative solution. The solution hinged on the full implementation of the new terrestrial television broadcast standard DVB-T2 in its spectrally-efficient SFN mode (a world first) - transmitting higher data rates in a given bandwidth than its predecessor DVB-T, more robustly, more cost-effectively. TeamCast took the SFN and DVB-T2 specs from paper to product in less than 18 months; and the innovative network was deployed using DNA Oy’s existing 3G mobile telecom transmitter sites and new planning rules.
