Caring for the environment is only natural
DNA's environmental responsibility involves the building of communication networks, cooperating with other industry organisations and maintaining our sites. DNA complies with current environmental legislation and expects the same from its contractors.
We acknowledge the environmental impact and risks of our business and strive to adapt our operations in order to ensure sustainability and prevent our operations from causing any harmful impact.
We are paying increasing attention to the travel arrangements of our employees and adopting more solutions which reduce the need for travelling, such as telephone and video conferencing. We also encourage our personnel to telecommute.
DNA emphasises the durability, life cycle and recovery of materials throughout the supply chain. Materials are recycled and waste is sorted at our sites and retail outlets. We are reducing our paper consumption by favouring new communication solutions.
DNA actively participates in greening the industry
DNA is an active participant in the Green ICT working group set up by FiCom, the Finnish Federation for Communications and Teleinformatics. Members of the working group include telecommunications and information technology companies, which assess the impact of their operations according to the Global Reporting Initiative indicators, where applicable in the Finnish ICT industry. The project will map the services offered by ICT companies in order to help other sectors improve their energy efficiency.
DNA donates servers for teaching purposes
DNA has donated decommissioned servers to educational institutions. The donated servers are approximately five years old. In all its acquisitions, DNA pays attention to the durability, life cycle and recycling of materials.
The servers are well-suited for educational purposes, and the educational institutions appreciate the donation. As they often have limited budgets, it is not always possible for educational institutions to buy servers even if they were needed. The servers have been carefully checked, and data security ensured, before making the donation.
Environmental responsibility is an integral part of DNA's way of operating. Therefore, new servers acquired by DNA for service provision are more efficient and consume less energy.
Decommissioned servers were donated to the following educational institutions:
Lahti, 13 servers: Lahti Region Educational Consortium, Salpaus Further Education
Lohja, 10 servers: Intermunicipal Federation of Vocational Education in Western Uusimaa, Education Centre of Western Uusimaa
Pori, 12 servers: WinNova West Coast Education Ltd
